In 1964, as a newly retired Army officer, Chandis Stewart opened a sewing shop in the town of Decatur, Illinois. Aptly named Stewart’s Sewing Center, he and his wife started the store with one used sewing machine, a work bench and a lot of elbow grease. Today it is not only a sewing center, but a quilt shop in the town of Mt. Zion, Illinois. Mr. Stewart passed in 2018 at the age of 93. He has left quite a legacy.
His daughter runs the business and has worked in it for over 30 years! They boast over 4000 bolts of fabric and sewing machines from Elna, Janome, Babylock and Juki. They still work on all makes and models of sewing machines and sergers.
Treating customers like family has always been at the heart of what we do. We believe that sewing should be fun and rewarding. They offer classes, seminars and workshops too!
